CÁRMEN DE LOS MARTIRES GRANADA

The Generalife gardens at the Alhambra Palace are famous and with good reason. However, just down the road is a hidden gem. Carmen de los Mártires is a short walk from the Generalife and located very close to the ugly Alhambra Palace hotel. I urge anyone visiting Granada, and who is into gardens, to take a stroll to the Carmen de los Mártires. Entrance is free both to the 19th centruy house and the gardens. The views of Granada from the gardens are splendid.
Peacocks will be looking on as you tour the grounds that were so admired by such famous past Granadinos as poet Federico Garcia Lorca and composer Manuel de Falla. There are charming grottoes, bridges, towers and duck ponds. The planting is splendid and very impressive. The wisteria, palms and tree ferns are particularly impressive. If you want to avoid the crowds at the Alhambra Palace, then i urge you to visit this haven of peace set above this excellent city.
