On a night when all eyes were skywards for a meteoric display, I found myself in the perfect location for star gazing. Cortijo Opazo is just outside Pitres, up high in the ever glorious La Alpujarra. If only I could take the winter cold I would live in this beautiful part of Spain.
As it was, last night, I went up there to cool down. A lovely evening of music set in the gorgeous gardens created by Robert and William.
Musicians came from near and far to perform and a nice mixture of Spanish locals and British residents sat back and enjoyed the delightful repertoire. How could an evening of music in such a relaxing and friendly setting fail to impress?
I was struck by the nice mix of spectators. All ages and most nationalities. Even a dangerous looking spider turned up to show off. I didn't get too close as I was reliably informed this guest had a bite even more memorable than its appearance.
Now if you haven't been to La Alpujarra in your lifetime; well, you haven't lived. And if you have been up there, but not yet been to an open day at Cortijo Opazo; i suggest you make a note to do so. The garden is open Fridays.
You'll need time to enjoy not just this garden but all the delights that are on offer locally. So stay here. Cortijo Opazo has splendid rooms for you to stay in.
